Willow, Alaska
Located in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, Willow, Alaska is a small sprawling
unincorporated community situated along the Parks Highway, Hatcher Pass Road,
and the Alaska Railroad. It is surrounded by the Talkeetna, Chugach, and the Alaska mountain ranges, with Mount McKinley towering majestically in the background. The surrounding area offers countless outdoor activity opportunities and is known as the Recreation Capital of Alaska. Willow hosts Nancy Lake State Recreational Area encompassing 130 lakes offering, camping, hiking, canoeing, fishing, and an array of winter sport trials. Willow Lake located in the heart of Willow, hosts the official re-start of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race the first weekend of March. It also hosts the Alaska State Winter Carnival the end of January and beginning of February.
With nearby Wasilla, a 30 minute drive south visitors can tour the Iditarod Trail Committee Headquarters or have all the comforts of modern day shopping. Traveling North on the Parks Highway you will find Denali State Park and a longer drive can take you to Denali National Park. East of Willow is the historic mining region located in Hatcher Pass and Palmer which hosts the Alaska State Fair. West is the “Big Su” Susitna and Deshka River’s both offering seasonal fishing, boating and sightseeing.
